The Eng­land play­ers set out to beat Ger­many at the Free State Sta­dium in Bloem­fon­tei on Sunday but the Ger­man side crushed Fabio Capello´s team 4–1 in a con­tro­ver­sial match between the old rivals. Miroslav Klose gave Ger­many the lead on 20 minutes as he latched on to a long goal kick from Manuel Neuer to score the open­ing goal of the game before Lukas Podol­ski made it 2–0 after 32 minutes when he found the net with a low effort.

The Three Lions shook off a mediocre start to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to defeat plucky Slov­e­nia 1–0 in front of a 36,000 crowd at Nel­son Man­dela Bay Sta­dium in Port Eliza­beth on Wed­nes­day. Thanks to a bril­liant­team effort the Eng­land side man­aged to go through to the Second Round of the tour­na­ment and a clash with Ger­many while a Landon Donovan goal against Algeria took the United States to the very top of the group.

Although injury kept Ji-sung Park out of South Korea’s final warm up match against Spain the Manchester United mid­fielder was back in time for the game against Greece at the Nel­son Man­dela Bay Sta­dium in Port Eliza­beth on Sat­urday. The South Korea play­ers were off to a fine start as defender Lee Jung-soo vol­leyed home Ki Sung-yueng’s bril­liantly taken free kick in the sev­enth minute of the encounter. Ji-sung Park went on to clinch the win after 52 minutes when the mid­field dynamo beat two defend­ers before he put the ball behind help­less goal­keeper Alex­an­dros Tzorvas.
