Sir Alex Ferguson Bides His Time

Sir Alex Ferguson has, as the time honoured cliche has it, come a long way to the top. The legendary Manchester United gaffer has built his whole managerial career on the sound principles he learned as a Clydeside apprentice and over the years he has gained a world wide reputation for his fighting spirit and honest workmanship. Under the intelligent stewardship of the man who once managed East Stirlingshire, Manchester United became the wealthiest soccer club in the world by far in the 1990s by simply winning football matches. In the summer of 2003 came the Americans.

Despite the downturn in spending under the Glazer regime, Wayne Rooney is about to close a lucrative £35 million deal that will make him the best paid player in Manchester United history. Although Sir Alex Ferguson was eager to formalise contract talks in earnest with the highly rated frontman before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Manchester United eventually agreed with Wayne Rooney and his representative Paul Stretford not to begin negotiations until the conclusion of the tournament. The new agreement will keep the England international at Manchester United until 2015.
