Getting Manchester United’s Champions League campaign up and running last night, Javier Hernandez took a magnificent cross from fellow substitute Federico Macheda and put the ball behind the Valencia goalkeeper with just five minutes remaining on the clock. With Rio Ferdinand resuming his partnership with Nemanja Vidic, the desperate Valencia players found themselves unable to draw level as the game went into the final minutes.
Wayne Rooney Left Out

Sir Alex Ferguson has left Wayne Rooney, who has scored just once in the league this campaign, out for the Champions League game against Valencia on Wednesday. Struggling under intense media pressure following explosive revelations about his private life, he gave a mediocre performance against Bolton Wanderers last Sunday and was replaced by Federico Macheda in the 61st minute of the game after receiving a knock to his left ankle.

In keeping with most Premier League derbies between Bolton Wanderers and Manchester United, the match at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday no doubt lived up to its billing as a tough encounter. The Trotters took an early lead through Zat Knight who flicked the ball into the back of the net from a Martin Petrov corner before free flowing flankman Nani made the score read 1–1 with an outstanding individual effort after 23 minutes.

When he died on 20 January 1994, a vast amount of fans turned out to pay their last respects and two years later a bronze statue was unveiled in honour of the man who was known as Mr. Manchester United.

Manchester United, still undefeated in the English Premier League this campaign, are no doubt red hot favourites to beat Owen Coyle´s Bolton Wanderers team at Reebok Stadium this upcoming Sunday afternoon. Manchester United are expected to welcome back highly experienced central defender Rio Ferdinand from injury but Michael Carrick, Owen Hargreaves and Antonio Valencia are all out sidelined with long term injuries.

The Carling Cup Third Round tie between Scunthorpe United and Manchester United at Glanford Park yesterday was probably the biggest event in the history of The Iron. The hosts took the lead after 19 minutes when Martyn Woolford found Josh Wright who scored with shot from 25 yards but the visitors hit back as Darron Gibson executed a lob over Joe Murphy on 23 minutes before Chris Smalling scored a second goal after 36 minutes.

The Poland international has no doubt endured a long spell in the wilderness after making his Premier League debut for Manchester United in a narrow 1–0 defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford in September 2006.

Dimitar Berbatov completed a stunning hat-trick with just a few minutes remaining to give Manchester United a deserved 3–2 win over Liverpool on Sunday. After giving Manchester United the lead shortly before the interval, Berbatov netted his second goal in the 59th minute of the tightly contested game with a great overhead kick before the goal hungry centre forward sealed the encounter with a perfect header with only six minutes left.
