Gordon McQueen Ruled The Air

Born and bred in Ayrshire, Gordon McQueen began his glittering footballing career with St Mirren and made his club debut for The Saints in a friendly match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in August 1970. A powerful central defender, McQueen was eventually spotted by legendary Leeds United chief Don Revie who subsequently brought the youth to West Yorkshire for an estimated transfer fee of £30,000 in the summer of 1972.

Manchester United were held to a most boring 0–0 draw by Glasgow Rangers in the opening round of the UEFA Champions League group matches at their Old Trafford home on Tuesday night. However, the result represented success for the Scottish Premier League champions who showed discipline, organisation and structure.

Manchester United start their Champions League campaign with a fixture against Rangers on Tuesday well aware of the fact that they were kicked out by Bayern Munich at the last-eight stage last season, failing to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 2006. The Reds are in excellent form coming into this meeting, unbeaten in their last five matches, while Rangers have won each of their last five games. Although the Scottish club are underdogs, they will be looking forward to facing the most successful club in Britain for the first time since 2003.
Manchester United Draw At Everton

Manchester United were held to a 3–3 draw by an attack minded Everton team at Goodison Park on Saturday with the home side scoring two goals in stoppage time to earn themselves a valuable point. A highly anticipated league match, Wayne Rooney was left out of the Manchester United squad for the lunchtime fixture against Everton as Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to spare the former Goodison Park hero from abuse from the home supporters.
Manchester United Face Tough Trip

Wayne Rooney returns to former club Everton as Manchester United travel to Goodison Park for a lunchtime game this upcoming Saturday. Much to the relief of Sir Alex Ferguson, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand could both be set for a return after recovering from injuries. The Merseysiders, however, defeated Manchester United 3–1 in this fixture last campaign and a trip to Liverpool won’t be easy against a home side looking for their first win.
The Injury Prone Francis Burns

Born and grown in the village of Glenboig, Francis Burns joined Manchester United straight from school and made his first league appearance for the club in a fine 3–1 triumph against West Ham United at Boleyn Ground in September 1967. The thoughtful left back managed to establish himself in the first team the following season but unfortunately his career was to be hampered by a series of cartilage injuries in the time to come.

Sir Matt Busby was the manager at Old Trafford from 1945 to 1969, taking Manchester United to both League and Cup honours.. When the legendary manager died on the 20th of January 1994, a vast amount of supporters turned out to pay their last respects and two years later a bronze statue was unveiled at the Scoreboard End of Old Trafford in honour of the big man who was simply known as Mr. Manchester United.

Born and growing up in in Glasgow, Alan Brazil began his soccer career at Ipswich Town where the colourful centre forward made his first league appearance when he came on as a substitute in a narrow 2–1 defeat against Manchester United at Portman Road in January 1978. The Arthur Scargill look alike managed to score 80 goals in 210 matches for The Tractor Boys before he moved on to Tottenham Hotspur for £470,000 in March 1983.

Born and growing up in Coseley, Steve James began his soccer career when he signed as an apprentice with Manchester United at the beginning of the 1965–66 season. A whole hearted central defender, the promising player made his first league appearance for his club in a 2–0 defeat to bitter historical rivals Liverpool at Anfield in October 1968 and proceeded to score four goals in 129 league appearances during his Manchester United career.

Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley will now be given the chance to gain some valuable Premier League experience as Wigan Athletic manager Roberrto Martinez has signed him on a season long loan deal on transfer deadline day. After impressing in Manchester United’s pre-season games this summer, manager Sir Alex Ferguson wanted the promising midfield dynamo to join a club in the Premier League to further his development.
