Born and growing up in the city of Aberdeen, John Fitzpatrick started out at Thistle Lads Club before the promising midfield player signed professional terms with Manchester United in 1963. A product of the Manchester United Youth Academy, the talented youngster went on to win a FA Youth plaque medal the following year.

Michael Owen Sidelined

Manchester United striker Michael Owen has suffered a severe setback in his recovery from injury. Owen was due to return for Tuesday’s Carling Cup match at home to Wolverhampton, but another hamstring injury is set to sideline the frontman for a few more weeks. Since starting in the Community Shield encounter against Chelsea in August, he has made six appearances so far this campaign. The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle player is in the final season of a two-year deal and there have been no negotiations with Manchester United regarding a possible extension.

Javier Hernandez grabbed a late winner to take Carling Cup holders Manchester United into the Football League Cup Quarter Finals with a 3–2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford yesterday. In front of a 45,000 crowd„ Hernandez came off the substitutes’ bench in the second half to secure victory for the hosts.

Dubliner Frank Stapleton started out with Arsenal as an apprentice after initially being turned down by Manchester United. With Arsenal, Stapleton helped the club win the unforgettable 1979 FA Cup Final when the battering ram striker managed to score one of the goals in the narrow 3–2 win against Dave Sexton´s Manchester United.
The Legendary Roger Byrne

Born and brought up in Manchester, Roger Byrne was one of Manchester United’s greatest captains and his impact on the Old Trafford club cannot be overestimated. Byrne went on to to make his first appearance for Manchester United in a First Division match against Liverpool at Anfield Road in the 1951–52 season and the gifted full back went on to become a member of the legendary Busby Babes side of the 1950s.

The Manchester United players pack their bags and make the short trip to Stoke-on-Trent to take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this upcoming weekend. The Reds have met Stoke just four times in the past decade, with Manchester United winning all of these matches. Sir Alex Ferguson´s men averaged three goals per game in these four encounters, while the Potters haven´t scored once. However, Manchester United will be without Wayne Rooney on Sunday as the England international sustained an ankle injury caused by a tough challenge from Paul Scholes in training.

Alan Davies signed for local team Manchester United on associate schoolboy forms in 1976. Another promising prodigy to rise up through the Manchester United youth ranks, Davies made his league debut in a 1–0 victory over Southampton at Old Trafford in May 1982 and remained on the books of the club until the summer of 1985.

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed controversial frontman Wayne Rooney wants to leave Manchester United. Rooney´s contract with Manchester United runs out at the end of next season and the manager has admitted the England international doesn’t want to sign a new deal with the club. As a consequence, Wayne Rooney has been left out of Manchester United’s Champions League encounter with Bursaspor at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

Despite of the fact Manchester United dominated possession for much of the game, they lost two valuable points at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. Manchester United were 2–0 up midway through the first half thanks to goals from new signing Javier Hernandez who netted with a great effort on five minutes and Nani who doubled the score 20 minutes later, but defensive frailty gifted West Bromwich two goals after the resumption.
