Born and grow­ing up in the city of Aber­deen, John Fitzpatrick star­ted out at Thistle Lads Club before the prom­ising mid­field player signed pro­fes­sional terms with Manchester United in 1963.  A product of the Manchester United Youth Academy, the tal­en­ted young­ster went on to win a FA Youth plaque medal the fol­low­ing year.

Owen was due to return for Tuesday’s Carling Cup match at home to Wol­ver­hamp­ton, but another ham­string injury is set to side­line the front­man for a few more weeks. Since start­ing in the Com­munity Shield encounter against Chelsea in August, he has made six appear­ances so far this campaign. The former Liv­er­pool, Real Mad­rid and New­castle player is in the final sea­son of a two-year deal and there have been no nego­ti­ations with Manchester United regard­ing a pos­sible extension.

Born and brought up in Manchester, Roger Byrne was one of Manchester United’s greatest cap­tains and his impact on the Old Traf­ford club can­not be over­es­tim­ated. Byrne went on to to make his first appear­ance for Manchester United in a First Divi­sion match against Liv­er­pool at Anfield Road in the 1951–52 sea­son and the gif­ted full back went on to become a mem­ber of the legendary Busby Babes side of the 1950s.
