Juan Sebastian Veron Failed To Tango

Juan Sebastian Veron, who was born in Buenos Aires, signed for Estudiantes in 1993 and the gifted youth made 22 league appearances for the club before he went on to play for Boca Juniors three years later. Veron then spent five years in Italy where he appeared for Sampdoria, Parma and Lazio before he was transferred to Manchester United for an estimated fee of £28 million at the end of the 2000-01 season.
The Unflappable Mikael Silvestre

Hailing from the historic town of Chambray-les-Tours, Mikael Silvestre started out at Rennes before the sought after youth was lured to Inter Milan where he ultimately became a tower of strength to the club. As things turned out, the unflappable defender eventually signed for Manchester United for a fee in the region of £4 million in September 1999 and made his Premier League debut away to Liverpool shortly after.
The Rampant Andrei Kanchelskis

Born and raised in the city of Kirovograd in Ukraine, Andrei Kanchelskis started out his playing career with Dynamo Kiev in 1988 before the rampant right winger moved to Shakhtar Donetsk three years later. The Ukrainian eventually signed with Manchester United for a fee of £650,000 in the spring of 1991 and made his league debut for the club in a 3–0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in May 1991.

Hailing from Hamilton, David Herd initiated his professional career with Stockport County where the young and talented striker clocked up 15 league appearances before he was sold to Arsenal for £10,000 in 1954. After scoring 107 goals in 180 games for The Gunners, the natural born hitman was signed by Manchester United manager Matt Busby for a transfer fee of £35,000 at the beginning of the 1961–62 campaign.
The Underestimated Roy Carroll

Born in Enniskillen, Roy Carroll began his goalkeeping career with local teams Fivemiletown United and Ballinamallard United before the dependable shot stopper decided to team up with Second Division Hull City in the spring of 1995. After making 46 league outings for The Tigers, Carroll eventually left Boothferry Park for Wigan Athletic for a then club record fee of £350,000 at the end of the 1996–97 campaign.

Born and growing up in Johnstone, Jim Leighton initiated his goalkeeping career at Aberdeen where the shot stopper won every domestic honour under the successful leadership of manager Alex Ferguson. Arguably, the greatest achievements of his sporting life were the European Cup Winner’s Cup triumph against Real Madrid in Gothenburg in May 1983 and the Super Cup victory over Hamburg later the same year.

Manchester United’s astonishing 9–0 victory against George Burley´s Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in March 1995 still remains the biggest win in the comparatively short history of the English Premier League. Even though reigning champions Manchester United were strong favourites favourites to keep the points at home against the relegation struggling Suffolk side, no one could have expected a result like this.

A Manchester local, Nicky Butt joined Manchester United straight from school and made his debut for the club when he came on as a substitute in a 3–0 win at home to Oldham Athletic in November 1992. While at Manchester United, the midfield player made over 200 league outings and gained six Premier League title winner’s medals, three FA Cup winner’s medals and a UEFA Champions League winner’s medal.
