Juan Sebastian Veron, who was born in Buenos Aires, signed for Estu­di­antes in 1993 and the gif­ted youth made 22 league appear­ances for the club before he went on to play for Boca Juni­ors three years later. Veron then spent five years in Italy where he appeared for Samp­doria, Parma and Lazio before he was trans­ferred to Manchester United for an estim­ated fee of £28 mil­lion at the end of the 2000-01 season.

As things turned out, the unflap­pable defender even­tu­ally signed for Manchester United for a fee in the region of £4 mil­lion in Septem­ber 1999 and made his Premier League debut away to Liv­er­pool shortly after.

Born and raised in the city of Kiro­vo­grad in Ukraine, Andrei Kanchel­s­kis star­ted out his play­ing career with Dynamo Kiev in 1988 before the rampant right winger moved to Shakhtar Don­etsk three years later. The Ukrain­ian even­tu­ally signed with Manchester United for a fee of £650,000 in the spring of 1991 and made his league debut for the club in a 3–0 defeat against Crys­tal Palace at Sel­hurst Park in May 1991.

Hail­ing from Hamilton, David Herd ini­ti­ated his pro­fes­sional career with Stock­port County where the young and tal­en­ted striker clocked up 15 league appear­ances before he was sold to Arsenal for £10,000 in 1954. After scor­ing 107 goals in 180 games for The Gun­ners, the nat­ural born hit­man was signed by Manchester United man­ager Matt Busby for a trans­fer fee of £35,000 at the begin­ning of the 1961–62 campaign.
