Hailing from Hamilton, David Herd initiated his professional career with Stockport County where the young and talented striker clocked up 15 league appearances before he was sold to Arsenal for £10,000 in 1954. After scoring 107 goals in 180 games for The Gunners, the natural born hitman was signed by Manchester United manager Matt Busby for a transfer fee of £35,000 at the beginning of the 1961–62 campaign.

Tom Cleverley has signed a new and lucrative four-year deal with Manchester United which will keep the inspirational midfield playmaker at Old Trafford until 2015. After enjoying successful loan spells with Leicester City, Watford and Wigan Athletic over the past three seasons, he started his first Premier League match for Manchester United away to West Bromwich on the opening day of the 2011-12 campaign.
Darren Fletcher Remains Sidelined

According to the latest news reports, Manchester United midfield workhorse Darren Fletcher is in danger of missing the start of the upcoming campaign due to a persistent stomach virus. Because of his illness, the Scotland international failed to return for pre-season training at Carrington two weeks ago and the player was left behind when the Manchester United squad flew out for their 2011 summer tour of the United States.

The FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium in 1963 signalled a new golden era for Manchester United as they defeated Leicester City 3–1 with a goal from Denis Law and two from David Herd. Matt Busby´s Manchester United side gradually took control of the match and the opening goal came after 30 minutes of play when Paddy Crerand found Denis Law who managed to knock the ball into the back of the net to give his club a fully deserved lead.
