A goal from England international Chris Smalling and a brace from bandy legged flankman Nani eventually saw Sir Alex Ferguson´s Manchester United team running out deserved winners in the end.

Manchester United demolished Schalke to the tune of 4–1 at Old Trafford yesterday to book themselves a place in the Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium. Although Portuguese winger Nani was guilty of over egging the pudding a little, two excellent goals from Antonio Valencia and Darron Gibson in the first half had Manchester United in control and after the resumption a brace from Anderson gave the hosts a comfortable victory.

Ryan Giggs scored the first goal when the veteran powered a left foot shot under Manuel Neuer in the Schalke goal in the 67th minute of play before a confident Wayne Rooney completed the scoring with an unstoppable shot at the German keeper’s near post a mere two minutes later.

Nani put Manchester United ahead on three minutes when the winger slammed a fine effort behind Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal, but the hosts turned the game around thanks to goals from George Elokobi and Kevin Doyle respectively.
