A late goal from £20 million summer signing Ashley Young earned Manchester United a 3–3 draw against Swiss outfit FC Basel at Old Trafford in the UEFA Champions League last night. Manchester United, who missed the injured Wayne Rooney, went into a 2 – 0 lead at half time thanks to a brace from Danny Welbeck but as the second period progressed Thorsten Fink´s men became much more of a threat.

Table topping Manchester United were held to a 1–1 draw by a well organised and hard working Stoke City team at The Britannia Stadium on Saturday. Portugal international winger Nani opened the score sheet with a breathtaking individual display in the 27th minute of play before a brilliant headed goal from Stoke forward Peter Crouch seven minutes into the second half ended Manchester United´s winning streak.

Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United defeated League Championship outfit Leeds United 3–0 at Elland Road in the Football League Cup Third Round on Tuesday. Former England international Michael Owen scored the game´s two first goals within the opening 32 minutes before fellow veteran Ryan Giggs made the score read 3–0 in Manchester United´s favour shortly before the sound of the half time signal.

Manchester United were rescued by an outstanding individual effort from veteran Ryan Giggs to draw equal with Benfica at the Estadio da Luz on Wednesday. Oscar Cardozo opened the scoring when he drove a devastating shot across the face of the Manchester United goalkeeper and into the far corner of the goal after 24 minutes before Giggs powered the visiting side level three minutes before the half time whistle.

Manchester United outclassed Major League Soccer outfit New England Revolution to the tune of 4–1 before a crowd of 50,000 at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Wednesday. Exciting new winger Ashley Young made his Manchester United debut last night and the £20 million signing from Blackburn Rovers had a good match before he was substituted by free flowing flankman Gabriel Obertan in the 67th minute of the game.

After tracking Blackburn Rovers player Phil Jones for the last 18 months, Sir Alex Ferguson has now brought the highly promising youngster to Manchester United for an estimated transfer fee of £16 million. The Manchester United boss snatched the sought after central defender from under the nose of old rivals Liverpool and the 19-year-old starlet had a medical at Carrington yesterday after agreeing a five-year contract worth £40,000 a week.

Manchester United beat Chelsea 2–1 at home yesterday to move six points ahead of their rivals with two games to play. Javier Hernandez scored the opening goal inside the first minute before Nemanja Vidic doubled the lead in the 23 minute of the game as the defender headed home a Ryan Giggs cross. Frank Lampard pulled one back for the Londoners after the interval, but the goal proved to be just a consolation for the music hall fall guys.

Mexico international Javier Hernandez grabbed a late winner to keep Manchester United six points clear at the top of the English Premier League table with victory against Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. Hernandez added to his tally in the 84th minute of the encounter when rocket heeled right winger Antonio Valencia powered down his way the flank and crossed the ball to the free flowing frontman who produced an excellent finish.

High flying Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League table to seven points after drawing 0–0 with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Tuesday evening. Manchester United did their utmost to find a way forward but Sir Alex Ferguson´s men could not manage to break down the well organised Newcastle backline and the extremely hard working home side were well deserving of their point.
