Reportedly, Sir Alex Ferguson has backed former Manchester United favourite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to replace him when he finally decides to call it a day. A versatile attacker with an explosive shot, Solskjaer scored on his Manchester United debut against local rivals Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford in August 1996 and racked up 126 goals in 366 matches for The Reds before retiring from the game in August 2007.

Born in Enniskillen, Roy Carroll began his goalkeeping career with local teams Fivemiletown United and Ballinamallard United before the dependable shot stopper decided to team up with Second Division Hull City in the spring of 1995. After making 46 league outings for The Tigers, Carroll eventually left Boothferry Park for Wigan Athletic for a then club record fee of £350,000 at the end of the 1996–97 campaign.
