Although The Evertonians came more into the match as Manchester United defended ever deeper, the home side failed to level the score with the game ending 1–0 in favour of Sir Alex Ferguson´s team.

Danny Welbeck, who is back at Manchester United after a successful loan spell with Sunderland, scored one goal and created another for Anderson before Wayne Rooney made the final score read 3–0 in Manchester United´s favour.
