Sir Alex Ferguson´s title challengers controlled possession of the ball from the very start of the game and found themselves deservedly 3–0 up at half time.

Manchester United went into this match knowing they needed to overturn a 3–2 deficit from the first leg to book their place in the UEFA Europa League Quarter Finals. Rooney, who missed the 2–1 win over Norwich City due to throat infection, said the Old Trafford boss knows how to get the best out of his players and that he´s the key to winning the league title.
