After spending three roller-coaster years with Manchester United, Michael Owen is set to leave the Old Trafford club when his current contract expires next month. The former Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and England central attacker joined Manchester United in a blaze of controversy at the start of the 2009-10 campaign.
Born and bred in the cathedral city of Chester, Michael Owen signed professional terms with nearby Liverpool at the age of seventeen in December 1996. After making his English Premier League debut for Liverpool in a close 2–1 defeat against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park in May 1997, Owen proceeded to play 306 league games for the Merseysiders. The natural born goal plunderer later went on to give sterling service to Newcastle United and Real Madrid before he signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2009.
