Cameroon born Eric Djemba-Djemba ig­nited his foot­ball ca­reer at Nantes be­fore the prom­ising youth was sold to Manchester United for a trans­fer fee of £3.5 mil­lion in July 2003.  A tough tack­ling mid­fielder, he went on to make his de­but for Manchester United against fierce rivals Ar­senal in the FA Com­munity Shield a few weeks later.

With com­pet­i­tion for places in­tense at Manchester United, how­ever, Eric Djemba-Djemba was un­able to es­tab­lish him­self in the first team at the club. After mak­ing just 20 Premier League ap­pear­ances for The Manchester Reds, the frus­trated mid­field player even­tu­ally moved on to As­ton Villa for an es­tim­ated trans­fer fee of £1.5 mil­lion mid­way through the 2004-05 cam­paign. An in­ter­na­tional for his nat­ive Cameroon, Eric Djemba-Djemba was a mem­ber of the le­gendary side that won the African Na­tions Cup in 2002.
