Born on the Kent coast in Ramsgate, Gary Pallister initiated his long and illustrious career at Northern League Billingham Town before he joined Second Division outfit Middlesbrough as a raw teenager in 1984. After appearing in 156 league matches for The Smoggies, the rock solid central defender was eventually brought to Manchester United by ambitious manager Alex Ferguson for a transfer fee of £2.3 million at the beginning of the 1989–90 season. A tough tackling defender with excellent control of the ball, Pallister made over 300 appearances for Manchester United and he was a regular in the all conquering side of the 1990´s.
During his time at the Old Trafford club, Gary pallister won the FA Cup in 1990, 1994 and 1996, Cup Winners’ Cup in 1991, Football League Cup in 1992, Premier League title in 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997. A brilliant performer for almost a decade, the massive defender was also part of the side that came second in the league in 1992, 1995 and 1998, as well as the team that finished runners up in the Football League Cup in 1991 and 1994 and the FA Cup in 1995. With The Red Devils, Gary Pallister formed a formidable partnership with stopper colleague Steve Bruce and the long serving stalwart was probably one of the best centre halves in Manchester United history before he ended his successful Old Trafford career by returning to old club Middlesbrough for an estimated transfer fee of £2.5 million in the summer of 1998. After making his international debut for England in a goalless draw with Hungary at Nepstadion in Budapest in April 1988, Gary Pallister quickly built a brave and strong presence at the heart of defence and he was capped on 22 occasions by his native country between 1988 and 1996.
