Manchester United Demolish Roma

On Tuesday, April 10, 2007 Manchester United advanced to the Semi Finals of the UEFA Champions League after giving Roma a trashing they will probably never forget. The Italian team nevertheless started the match on a relatively bright note with a couple of early attempts when midfielder David Pizarro first hammered a long drive wide before Francesco Totti came close to score with a ferocious effort from 25-yards out.
Shortly after Michael Carrick opened the scoring for Manchester United as he received the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo and his clever shot curled past the goalkeeper to put the home side ahead. The second goal of the match came when Ryan Giggs passed the ball to Alan Smith who went on to net for the first time since coming back from injury. A third goal was scored just a few minutes later when Wayne Rooney put yet another ball behind the Roma goaltender after a brilliant cross ball from Giggs. Cristiano Ronaldo would then score one more goal for Manchester United, making the score read 4–0 before the interval.
After 49 minutes of play, Manchester United were to score again when the ever present Cristiano Ronaldo tapped home another perfect cross ball from Wales international Ryan Giggs. Michael Carrick then blasted the ball into the top corner to score the sixth goal of the Champions League encounter before Roma got their consolation goal as Daniele De Rossi managed to volley a cross from Francesco Totti into the back of the net after 69 minutes. Substitute Patrice Evra made it 7–1 in the 81st minute, however, when the attack minded defender hammered the ball behind Alexander Doni in the Roma goal.
