Manchester United mid­field play­maker Dar­ren Fletcher is delighted to be back in the Manchester United squad after spend­ing almost twelve months on the side­lines because of a ser­i­ous bowel con­di­tion. And accord­ing to the long serving Manchester United stal­wart, it is only a mat­ter of time before he is a reg­u­lar in the first team again.

Dar­ren Fletcher´s med­ical prob­lems first sur­faced when he was forced to leave the field dur­ing the 3–1 win over Aston Villa at Old Traf­ford in Feb­ru­ary 2011. Then, at the end of the year, the seasoned cam­paigner was advised by spe­cial­ist doc­tors to take a long break from the game of pro­fes­sional foot­ball after he was dia­gnosed with ulcer­at­ive colitis. The causes of ulcer­at­ive colitis are not yet fully under­stood, but they are thought to be down to bac­teria in the guts fight­ing against the body’s immune sys­tem. After an exten­ded period of con­vales­cence, how­ever, the strong run­ning mid­field orches­trator is now focus­ing on re-establishing him­self in the first team at Old Traf­ford. Dar­ren Fletcher: “I know that the man­ager has got such a big squad now, espe­cially in the mid­field area, and there is a lot of com­pet­i­tion for places. I have to be patient and wait for my chances but, hope­fully, one will come around sooner rather than later. I think my gen­eral fit­ness is fine, it’s just match fit­ness, the sharp­ness, reac­tion times, things in your head and things like that.”
