Darren Fletcher Needs A Break

Manchester United and Scotland midfield workhorse Darren Fletcher is taking an extended break from football for health reasons as the long serving club stalwart has been suffering from ulcerative colitis, also known as inflammatory bowel disease, for a long period of time. People with this condition have problems with the immune system, but it is not quite clear whether immune problems cause this illness.
Hailing from Dalkeith in Scotland, Darren Fletcher joined Manchester United as a trainee at the beginning of the 2000–2001 season and the dynamic midfielder made his senior debut for the club in a UEFA Champions League encounter with Swiss side FC Basel at Old Trafford in March 2003. A reliable and responsible performer, Darren Fletcher has stated on several occasions in the past that he wants to stay with the Manchester club for the rest of his playing life. Unfortunately, his Manchester United career so far has been hampered by a number of injuries which have restricted his appearances.
