Manchester United starlet Federico Macheda is looking forward to the club´s upcoming pre-season tour to South Africa and China this month. The striker was loaned out to Queens Park Rangers midway through last season but returned to Manchester United in the spring for treatment after a serious ankle injury cut short his stay.
Born and bred in Rome, Federico Macheda ignited his football career with Lazio’s youth team before he signed professional terms with Manchester United at the beginning of the 2008-09 season. The Italian prodigy became an immediate favourite with the Manchester United supporters when he emerged from the substitutes´ bench to score a stoppage time winner on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa at Old Trafford in April 2009. The Italy U21 international started the subsequent campaign strongly but unfortunately his form faded when it should have blossomed and the frustrated footballer was soon back in the Manchester United reserves. The following season Federico Macheda was shipped out on loan to relegation threatened Sampdoria where the young pretender appeared in fourteen Serie A matches before he made his return to Manchester. The Old Trafford frontrunner was loaned out again in January 2012 to English Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers, for whom he made only three league outings. Federico Macheda: “When I got to Queens Park Rangers things went a bit wrong as I was feeling my ankle a lot. But now I feel a lot better and want to start the season well. It is a big season for me.”
