Accord­ing to the latest news reports, Manchester United supremo Sir Alex Fer­guson has decided to buy Arsenal marks­man Robin van Per­sie for a trans­fer fee said to be some­where in the region of £24 mil­lion. The deal will be fully com­pleted as soon as the Neth­er­lands inter­na­tional attacker arrives to sign the rel­ev­ant paperwork.

Born and bred in the city of Rot­ter­dam, Robin van Per­sie appeared for local teams SBV Excel­sior and Fey­enoord before the tal­en­ted player was brought to Arsenal by man­ager Arsene Wenger for a trans­fer fee of £2.75 mil­lion in the sum­mer of 2004. A con­fid­ent and con­sist­ent front­man, the Dutch­man scored an aston­ish­ing 30 goals in 38 Eng­lish Premier League out­ings for the North Lon­don­ers last sea­son. Now soc­cer may very well be a team game, but without the goal scor­ing abil­ity of Robin van Per­sie the Emir­ates Sta­dium club will find it hard to win some­thing next cam­paign.
