According to the latest news reports, Manchester United supremo Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to buy Arsenal marksman Robin van Persie for a transfer fee said to be somewhere in the region of £24 million. The deal will be fully completed as soon as the Netherlands international attacker arrives to sign the relevant paperwork.
Born and bred in the city of Rotterdam, Robin van Persie appeared for local teams SBV Excelsior and Feyenoord before the talented player was brought to Arsenal by manager Arsene Wenger for a transfer fee of £2.75 million in the summer of 2004. A confident and consistent frontman, the Dutchman scored an astonishing 30 goals in 38 English Premier League outings for the North Londoners last season. Now soccer may very well be a team game, but without the goal scoring ability of Robin van Persie the Emirates Stadium club will find it hard to win something next campaign. Louis van Gaal: “I think Robin van Persie always has to decide for himself. When he wants he can ask me for advice.”
