In his constant search for perfection, Sir Alex Ferguson could make a surprise move for FC Porto speed merchant James Rodriguez. A brilliant dribbler of the ball, the youth has impressed the Manchester United boss with a string of excellent performances for The Blue and Whites in the Primeira Liga during the last couple of seasons.
James Rodriguez kick started his professional footballing career with Colombian Second Divison outfit Envigado FC before the promising prospect agreed to move to Buenos Aires side Atletico Banfield where he earned his first team debut in a convincing 3–1 success against Rosario Central at the Estadio Florencio Sola in February 2009. At the beginning of the 2010-11 campaign, however, the industrious and inventive youngster was brought to FC Porto and he has so far contributed 15 league goals in 41 outings for the Estadio do Dragao club. An international for his native Colombia, the pacy and powerful flankman made his first senior appearance for The Coffee Growers in a close 2–1 victory over fellow South Americans Bolivia at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz in October 2011. James Rodriguez, who has attracted the attention of a number of leading European clubs through his impressive displays for both club and country, is believed to carry a price tag of at least £25 million. According to the player´s agent, talks with the Portuguese Primeira Liga club will take place in due course. Silvio Sandri: “We must await developments and on the offer itself, I don’t have much else to say. The life of James Rodriguez has been based on small steps and playing it safe. Now he is happy at Porto and progressing a lot.”
