Sir Alex Ferguson

The Reds were humiliated by Manchester City on Sunday as braces from Mario Bolatelli and Edin Dzeko along with a goal each from Sergio Ageuro and David Silva gave The Light Blues a 6–1 triumph. Sir Alex Ferguson could only sit and watch as his players suffered their first defeat at home since losing 2–1 to Chelsea in April 2010.

The expansively assembled Manchester City side opened the scoring account in the 22nd minute as James Milner sent the ball across the penalty area to Mohican marksman Mario Balotelli who hammered home behind Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea. And although Manchester United consistently pushed forward for the rest of the first half, the visiting team managed to hold firm. But the half time score gave no clue at all to the deluge that was to hit Sir Alex Ferguson´s Manchester United team after the resumption. Just one minute into the second half, however, Manchester United were reduced to ten players when Northern Ireland international defender Jonny Evans was duly given his marching orders by match official Mark Clattenburg for a late and tough challenge on goal scorer Mario Balotelli. The floodgates opened for Roberto Mancini´s Manchester City on the hour mark when the unstoppable Mario Balotelli converted a fine cross from James Milner. A mere nine minutes later, central defender Micah Richards found Sergio Aguero who made the score read 3–0 in Manchester City´s favour. Scottish international Darren Fletcher hit a consolation goal for Manchester United in the 81st minute of play only for super substitute Edin Dzeko to make it 4–1 to the visiting team a minute from time. And as if that wasn´t painful enough, there was more to come for the Old Trafford side when Silva and Dzeko netted one goal each in stoppage time to provide the visitors a sensational 6–1 Premier League win. After losing to Manchester City, The Manchester Reds are now trailing their nouveau riche neighbours by five points in the English Premier League table.
