According to the latest reports, former England international Owen Hargreaves will not be offered a new contract by Sir Alex Ferguson after failing to recover from knee tendinitis. Canada born Hargreaves has seen his Manchester United career wrecked by a series of niggling injuries since the versatile midfielder was brought to Old Trafford from Bundesliga Bayern Munich for an estimated transfer fee of £17 million in the summer of 2007.
Owen Hargreaves enjoyed a memorable first season with Manchester United, winning the Barclays Premier League as well as the Champions League with The Reds. After struggling with persistent injuries for a long time, Hargreaves eventually went to consult a specialist surgeon in Colorado where the midfield workhorse underwent double knee surgery during the 2008-09 campaign. Owen Hargreaves, who is the son of former Bolton Wanderers and Calgary Kickers midfielder Colin Hargreaves, made his last start for Manchester United in the narrow 2–1 victory at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in November 2010.
Owen Hargreaves has managed only 39 appearances for Manchester United.
