Manchester United Leave for America

For the first time in Manchester United history the club will take on Major League Soccer opposition as they begin their first North American tour since 2004. The Manchester United squad will play five friendly matches across the American continent from Canada to the United States and finally down to Mexico. The Reds will be up against Glasgow Celtic in Toronto on July 16, Philadelphia Union on July 21 and Kansas City Wizards four days later, before they eventually face the Major League Soccer All Stars at the 70,000 capacity Reliant Stadium in Houston on July 28.

According to the latest reports, Manchester United are now preparing a £15 million offer for sought after Bolton Wanderers stopper Gary Cahill. Tipped as a future international star, the Reebok Stadium favourite has been watched closely by Sir Alex Ferguson and the highly promising centre-half is seen as a possible replacement for Manchester United skipper Rio Ferdinand. Gary Cahill impressed the experienced Manchester United boss last campaign when the former England Under-21 centre half emerged as one of the most important players in the Bolton Wanderers side.
Gary Neville Suffers Injury

Manchester United cornerstone Gary Neville will miss the club’s upcoming pre-season tour of North America this summer after picking up an injury. The 35-year-old evergreen veteran suffered a minor setback in training with a small tear to his calf muscle and Sir Alex Ferguson believes it would be better for the seasoned campaigner to remain at the Carrington Training Centre when the Manchester United squad leave for the United States.
Rio Ferdinand Could Miss Opener

Rio Ferdinand is in danger of missing the start of the season because of the devastating ligament damage to his left knee that kept him out of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Despite of the fact that the long serving Manchester United defender already has started work at the Carrington training ground, he is expected to miss the opening match of the Premier League season. Rio Ferdinand was sidelined for considerable periods last season and there are now fears that the England international might not be ready for a Manchester United comeback until late September.

The England players set out to beat Germany at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontei on Sunday but the German side crushed Fabio Capello´s team 4–1 in a controversial match between the old rivals. Miroslav Klose gave Germany the lead on 20 minutes as he latched on to a long goal kick from Manuel Neuer to score the opening goal of the game before Lukas Podolski made it 2–0 after 32 minutes when he found the net with a low effort.

The Three Lions shook off a mediocre start to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to defeat plucky Slovenia 1–0 in front of a 36,000 crowd at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday. Thanks to a brilliantteam effort the England side managed to go through to the Second Round of the tournament and a clash with Germany while a Landon Donovan goal against Algeria took the United States to the very top of the group.
