Rafael da Silva has agreed to put pen to paper on a new four-year deal with Manchester United. An attack minded and adventurous defender with an explosive shot, Rafael made his long awaited international debut for his native Brazil when he came on as a substitute in a 3–1 win over Denmark at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg in May.
Rafael Pereira da Silva, or just Rafael, was initially left out of the Brazilian squad for their international friendly matches against Denmark, the United States, Mexico and Argentina in May and July this year but the Manchester United right wingback was later called up as a replacement for injured Barcelona favourite Daniel Alves. Rafael da Silva, whose playing career to date has been one of steady progress, received his first call-up to the Brazilian national team back in July 2010. Sir Alex Ferguson: “Rafael da Silva is one of Manchester United´s brightest young prospects. The boy has no fear of playing and has great belief in himself. He has developed immensely since joining Manchester United, his energy and enthusiasm are a joy to watch. Rafael has all the attributes to become one of the best right fullbacks in the world and I am delighted that he has signed a new contract.”
