According to the latest news reports, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be ready to make a move for sought after Ajax favourite Jan Vertonghen. The 25-year-old Belgium international has performed well this season and has attracted the interest of several leading clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Jan Vertonghen made his debut for Dutch Honorary Division side Ajax when he came on as a second half substitute in a 2–0 defeat against Copenhagen at the Amsterdam Arena back in August 2006. Eventually, Vertonghen came to prominence under the inspirational leadership of likeable Ajax manager Martin Jol and the experienced anchorman has so far appeared in well over 150 matches for The Amsterdammers. A commanding and powerful central defender, Jan Vertonghen has managed to accumulate an impressive total of 36 international appearances for the Belgian national team after making his senior debut for the country of his birth in a narrow 2–1 loss against Portugal in June 2007.
