According to the latest news reports, Manchester United centre forward Wayne Rooney is in line for a surprise call up for Team Great Britain at this summer’s Olympics. The trigger happy marksman is one of ten Manchester United players in Great Britain coach Stuart Pearce’s provisional 80-man squad for the London 2012 Olympics.
Reportedly, Manchester United gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson has been informed that ten of his star players are on standby for a spot in Stuart Pearce’s final 18-man squad. Spanish net custodian David de Gea and Mexico international frontman Javier Hernandez are already confirmed for the London Olympics, while Ben Amos, Tom Cleverley, Ryan Giggs, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young are among the actual players that are still being considered by the Team Great Britain manager. Football Association chiefs have previously indicated that players taking part at the UEFA European Championship 2012 would not be picked for the London 2012 Olympics.
