Team Great Britain managed to edge out Uruguay by 1–0 in front of a 70,000 crowd at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Wednesday evening thanks to a close range goal from Chelsea frontrunner Daniel Sturridge in first half stoppage time. As a result of the win Stuart Pearce´s Great Britain side are through to the Olympic Quarter Finals.
Team Great Britain completely dominated the opening forty five minutes yesterday with the somewhat reluctant South American side largely content to sit back in their own half of the pitch. The Great Britain players eventually took the lead when Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen crossed the ball for the ever dangerous Daniel Sturridge who tapped home from close range in first period added time. Oscar Tabarez´s plucky Uruguay team tried to get back into the match in the second period but the home defence were very well organised and disciplined. Cardiff born Craig Bellamy once again enjoyed an exceptional good game for Team Great Britain and the strong running Liverpool and Wales marksman received a fully deserved ovation from the Millennium Stadium faithful when he was substituted by Tottenham Hotspur flankman Danny Rose with twelve minutes remaining on the referee´s clock. Great Britain will now lock horns with South Korea in the Olympic Quarter Finals at the Millennium Stadium this Saturday, as winners of their group. Great Britain Team: Jack Butland, Neil Taylor, Ryan Bertrand, Steven Caulker, Joe Allen, Aaron Ramsey, Micah Richards, Tom Cleverley, Scott Sinclair, Daniel Sturridge, Craig Bellamy.
