Tommy Docherty Slams Ryan Giggs
Tommy Docherty has called Manchester United midfield player Ryan Giggs a disgrace for not singing the National Anthem before Team Great Britain’s opening encounter with Senegal at Old Trafford last Thursday. According to the previous Manchester United manager, the playmaker has shown disrespect by not joining in the anthem.
Tommy Docherty, who had a sometimes glittering and always controversial managerial career, led Manchester United to promotion from the Football League Second Division to the First Division in 1974–75 and to FA Cup victory in 1977. Tommy Docherty: “Singing the National Anthem is about showing respect for your team and country. When I did National Service they didn’t ask if you were Welsh, Scottish or English. You were all in it fighting together. The players are all representing Great Britain so they should all sing.”
