Wayne Rooney Back On Scoring Trail

Manchester United moved into third place in the Barclays Premier League table thanks to a well earned 3–0 triumph against Avram Grant’s West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. In a somewhat one sided encounter, the East Londoners were denied their first points of the season as a first half penalty from England player Wayne Rooney set Manchester United on their way to a highly convincing home victory.
Sir Alex Ferguson made three changes to the Manchester United side who played Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend with Nani, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney coming in for Ji-Sung Park, Antonio Valencia and Javier Hernandez. After 13 games without a goal for Manchester United and England, Wayne Rooney managed to find the back of the net for the first time since scoring against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League Quarter Final in March. Former Mancester United defender Jonathan Spector brought down veteran player Ryan Giggs in the box after 33 minutes of play, providing the centre forward with a perfect opportunity to score from the penalty spot. Rooney then set up Manchester United’s second goal for Nani before Dimitar Berbatov completed the scoring to put The Reds on seven points along with Arsenal and two behind Chelsea.
