Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley will now be given the chance to gain some valuable Premier League experience as Wigan Athletic manager Roberrto Martinez has signed him on a season long loan deal on transfer deadline day. After impressing in Manchester United’s pre-season games this summer, manager Sir Alex Ferguson wanted the promising midfield dynamo to join a club in the Premier League to further his development.
Having previously had successful loan spells with Leicester City and Watford, Cleverley is regarded by many expert commentators as an outstanding model professional. Martinez has been watching Cleverley for some time and the manager feels the Manchester United starlet is the right sort of player to join the Wigan squad. Tom Cleverley went on to make his debut for the England U21 side when he came on as substitute in a 2–1 win away to Macedonia in September 2009.
Tom Cleverley joined Manchester United as a trainee in the summer of 2003.
